2 Chainz ft. The Weeknd – Like Me

I am kind of split on 2 Chainz, half of me thinks he is just a novelty, I kind of put him in a box with Gucci Mane and even Wayne sometimes, meaning they have great guest appearances, but whole songs are kind of tough to get through.  If you listen to the lyrics besides the catchy lines most of them are pretty laughable.  That being said I found some decent tracks on his latest album, Based on a TRU Story.  I like “Extremely Blessed,” ft. The Dream, “Countdown,” ft. Chris Brown, and the song below, “Like Me.”   Sampling the R&B crooner, 2 Chainz fits nicely over the sample.

Hit Boy ft. Kid Cudi – Old School Caddy

Famous for producing the Watch the Throne smash “N#ggas In Paris,” Hit Boy wants to follow Kanye’s footsteps in becoming a rapper/producer combo.  His first mixtape, HITstory, is his first attempt at crossing that boundary, and it is pretty decent.  Check out this track featuring Kid Cudi and d/l his whole tape for free at http://houseofhit.com/

Childish Gambino – Royalty Mixtape

Community and 30 Rock Star, Donald Glover comes out swinging with an album quality mixtape for free.  Royalty is a collection of high end production and clever wordplay.  He has definitely taken a more aggressive route with his lyrics and the funny rhymes of the past are few and far in between.  I strongly suggest d/l the album, after all you have nothing to lose, it’s free.  Download here: http://www.datpiff.com/Childish-Gambino-Royalty-mixtape.369224.html  Check below some of the highlights:

Kanye West & Pusha T – New God Flow

The G.O.O.D. family is warming up.  After “Mercy,” and “Theraflu,” Kanye lets us hear “New God Flow,” after performing a verse at the 2012 BET Awards.  Push and Kanye are great together jumping into each other’s verses.  This group album should be shaping up nicely.  We haven’t even heard any tracks with Common or John Legend, but this track is a good indication we are in for a treat.

50 Cent – You Will Never Take My Crown

I have to say I might be one of the few left that believes 50 Cent still is a viable artist, he proves time and time again his hard work ethic in music.  Any other artist who has made tens and hundreds of millions of dollars on a variety of business ventures would sit back and drop music once every couple of years if not retire.  Curtis continues to release music already having dropped the “Big 10,” and “Lost Tapes,” mixtapes this year.  Now he is releasing his latest offering this Friday on his website, thisis50.com.  I like the sample and the beat is aggressive, great gym music here.  Check it out.
