Brand new, you heard it hear first. Timbaland along with help from David Guetta and Pitbull gives us this uptempo club track. Not sure if I am digging this as Pitbull tends to get on my nerves, also they use an awful voice effect in the middle. But check it out and hear it for yourself.
Here’s the 2nd single off Coldplay’s soon to be released album “Mylo Xyloto,” due October 24th. This track falls right in line with that signature sound that was so prevalent on their last album, Viva la Vida, which they have been developing over their past four albums. No surprises here as it is that classic Coldplay that their fans have grown to know and love.
I don’t know what I find more amazing, the fact that the Finnish producer Lenno is able to create dance mixes that are so completely hypnotizing such as Robotic Love, or that the kid is only 16. That’s right, 16! Attacking this track with a Daft Punk-like sound, this song has the energy and bass to get any party started. Whether getting wild at a pre-game or fist pumping out the window on your way downtown, this is definitely one you’re going to want to keep on your playlist. Today marks the 15th anniversary of Tupac Shakur’s untimely death off the Vegas strip. As a rapper, poet, actor, and activist, arguably no other artist has been able to leave such an impact on music culture since Elvis and the Beatles. Being a hip hop fan in my teens, I followed his career, and it was a sad day when he passed. Everybody has good and bad opinions of his legacy, but he was a influential artist who was taken well before his time. RIP.
What happens when you get a record deal in 2009, and nothing comes of it? Well in Christopher Breaux’s case, you change your name to Frank Ocean, and prove yourself through songwriting and releasing a critically acclaimed mixtape. After penning songs for the likes of Justin Bieber, Beyonce, and John Legend, Frank put his attention and focus into taking personal favorite songs and singing new lyrics over the original music. He then added some original material including the underground hit, “Novacane,” to make up his free mixtape, nostalgia, ULTRA. With the release of the tape, as well as his affiliation to the young hip hop group, Odd Future, he began to draw more and more attention ultimately leading to his guest appearances on Watch the Throne. Check out his unique voice and songwriting skills on one of his early songs, “Pyrite.”
This song has been in my head for most of the night so I thought I would share it with the rest of you. On a long drive back from Maryland to D.C. after my first adventure in skiing, I discovered Local Natives “Wide Eyes.” I downloaded the song as soon as I got home and played about 25 times in a row. With heavy drums and soothing electric guitar, this band from Orange County creates an eerie opening track to an album (Gorilla Manor) they made using their own money. Besides spraining my ankle and almost hitting several innocent bystanders, discovering Local Natives was one of the greater moments from my trip.
So upon doing my daily research for the site, I stumbled across this gem that began floating around the internet earlier this year. Cold War Kids have been tearing up the indie scene for years, but with the release of their third album, “Mine is Yours,” the guys of the electro-pop group Passion Pit were able to get a hold of the title track and come up with an addictive remix that is sure to get you moving.
With “Pumped Up Kicks” getting so much airplay I thought I would post another favorite from their album, Addicted to Company. “Helena Beat,” grabs you with a “MGMT” sound, and addictive upbeat tempo. They are having a breakout year and it is well deserved. With “Kicks” hitting number one on the alternative chart, and an album full of radio singles, Foster The People will be dominating radio this year and into next.

Well it’s been about a week and we appreciate all the great feedback we have been receiving. One of the many comments I received was “What about country?” To be honest that is one genre I know the least about. So to be true to our audience I bring you a remix of John Denver’s classic “West Virginia.” I know this is a stretch but I am really digging the looping of the guitar chords. Named after a tagline from a Pink Floyd poster, Pretty Lights aka Derek Vincent Smith is a college dropout who followed his love of music. He now runs his own company, Pretty Lights Music, in which he offers his and other artist’s albums for free only asking for an optional donation.
